So for my post, I thought I’d give you a little teaser of a scene from the sequel. Don’t worry. There aren’t any spoilers!

Travis gazed up at the mountain, watching the thick bank of fog drifting down toward him, the pale light of dawn giving the haze a ghostly glow. The silence of the cold morning air was eerie enough, but something hung in the air, more than just the fog. The chill seeped into his skin, into his bones, and caused a shiver that had little to do with the weather, and everything to do with the faint whispers and moans that seemed to emanate from within the mist. Rubbing his arms, he continued walking along the riverbank, refusing to let the gloom drive him inside.

He had come out here to think, to clear his head. Though his new home at the habitat was safe, its location deep within the mountain made him feel claustrophobic. The best way to solve that problem was to go outside, and every morning he walked for an hour or more while the sun rose and the fog gradually dissipated. His thoughts inevitably fell on Tara, wondering what was happening to her back at The Bunker. He hated that he couldn’t go to her and bring her back here with him, sure that having her by his side again would ease the dreary mood which had gripped him since his arrival.

He caught his foot on a root and stumbled. From behind him, a soft laugh floated by on the breeze and he whirled around to find the valley as deserted as it had been moments before. It seemed to happen a lot. The locals swore ghosts inhabited the entire area, and they were responsible for the ethereal sounds and constant feeling of being watched. Whether it was true, Travis had no idea. But he’d heard the laugh before and every time he did, he was sure, no matter how irrational that certainty was, that Tara was close by.

I’ve been working on the sequel for a while and making progress, but it’s taking a while. I’m excited to get it done and introduce you to some interesting new characters with some pretty amazing gifts of their own!

Enter for a chance to win EVERNIGHT TEEN’s GRAND PRIZE of an iPad Mini and my blog prize (a $10 Evernight Teen gift certificate) by answering this question (be sure to include your email address to be eligible to win):
